ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM (AP)
The Advanced Placement (AP) Program provides students with the opportunity to pursue college-level studies while still in high school and to receive advanced placement and/or credit when entering college. Academically qualified students are eligible to participate in the Advanced Placement Program.
Five departments presently offer Advanced Placement courses: English, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. In general, these courses adhere to the suggested College Board course descriptions and serve as the primary vehicle to prepare students for the voluntary AP examination in May.
Each college determines what AP examination grades and courses it will recognize. Many colleges will grant sophomore standing to a student who presents acceptable scores on three or more AP exams. The student should check with the AP coordinator or the college counselor for current information regarding a particular college's policy on individual AP courses.
